Tropico 7 launches on PC on 28th January 2027, with El Presidente once again promising prosperity while quietly topping up his Swiss bank account. Kalypso Media is publishing, with its internal studio Gaming Minds Studios developing. It’s coming to Steam, the Epic Games Store and Xbox on PC through the Microsoft Store.
What’s new in Tropico 7
The headline addition is terraforming, a first for the series. You can level or raise ground, dig lakes, create beaches and even fill in parts of the sea to make new land. Very large mountains can’t be removed entirely, and terraforming is costly. Even El Presidente has a budget, apparently.
Maps are built around archipelagos, and Kalypso says the islands are the biggest in the series, with maps four times bigger. The campaign runs across five maps and introduces a new nemesis, Victoria Guerra, alongside the long-suffering Penultimo. There are also 10 scenario missions, over 40 premade maps and a random map generator.
Politics has been reworked as well. Eight factions sit on a new political matrix, and instead of firing off random ultimatums they meet you face to face in a council. Your constitution decides where you land on that matrix, which decides the edicts available to you. Up to six superpowers offer perks in exchange for their “colourful” demands.
Elsewhere you get scalable zones for plantations and botanical gardens, deeper transport management, a choice of grid-based or completely free building placement, and a reworked military with more direct control of units. El Presidente also strolls around the city on foot now, waving to supporters and threatening opponents, which feels about right.
Multiplayer won’t be there at launch. Kalypso says it plans to add it later as a free update.
Price and editions
On Steam the standard edition costs £49.99 / $54.99 and the Deluxe Edition £59.99 / $69.99. Both are currently 10% off as pre-orders, bringing them to £44.99 / $49.49 and £53.99 / $62.99. The Deluxe Edition adds a “Bunker” palace facade, a “Revolutionary” outfit, seven decorative items, a digital “Making of Tropico 7” compendium and the soundtrack. Kalypso’s own store says Deluxe pre-orders also get 48 hours of early access and a “Supervillain” outfit.
Tropico 7 on GeForce NOW
The free Tropico 7 demo arrived on Steam on 19th October for Steam Next Fest, which runs until 26th October, and the Next Fest demo is available on GeForce NOW.
For the full game, Kalypso has opted Tropico 7 in for GeForce NOW. That means owners should be able to install their Steam copy and play it through Install-to-Play from launch, as with most opted-in games. Install-to-Play is only for paid Performance and Ultimate members. NVIDIA hasn’t confirmed a date yet.
Tropico 7 is also a day one PC Game Pass release, and Game Pass titles often join the full GeForce NOW library at launch. There’s a good chance it lands there on day one, though that isn’t confirmed.
