Everything announced for Xbox’s 25th anniversary

Price and release date

The controller released on 20 October 2026. It costs £74.99 in the UK and $79.99 in the US on the Microsoft Store.

Xbox first revealed it alongside the X25 console on 7 June 2026. Pre-orders opened on 26 August 2026 in select markets, the same day pre-orders began for the console bundle.

Is it in stock?

As of 28 October 2026, the Microsoft Store lists the controller as out of stock in both the UK and the US. We’ll update this piece if it comes back.

The design

Everything about the controller is built around the original Xbox, which launched in 2001:

• Translucent OG Green shell. You can see through the top case and back case to the hardware inside.
• A green Xbox button. It’s inspired by the green ‘X’ that introduced the original Xbox.
• Original ABXY colours. The face buttons use the colours from the original Xbox controller.
• Legacy bumpers. The bumpers are a nod to the black and white buttons on the original “Duke” controller.
• A see-through battery door. It’s the first translucent battery door on an Xbox controller, and the back case and battery door show off the classic Xbox logo.
• Textured triggers and bumpers for grip.

You can remap its buttons in the Xbox Accessories app.

It also comes with the X25 console

Every Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition comes with an X25 Special Edition controller in the box, along with a full-game download of Halo: Campaign Evolved. The console launches on 13 November 2026 for £759.99 or $899.99, so you only need to buy the controller separately if you’re not getting the console or want a second pad.

Xbox turns 25 on 15 November 2026. Our Xbox 25th anniversary page has every announcement, date and price in one place.
