Bring Death back

The premise is a neat one. Death has been imprisoned, and the world hasn’t become a paradise because of it. People still suffer pain, ageing, hunger and disease, so immortality has turned into an eternal torment. You set out to free Death and take down the Cult of Eternity responsible for locking it away.

The hook in combat is that your life is constantly draining. You have to chain combos and movement abilities through hordes of enemies to claw health back before you run dry. Lightmancer cites Hades, Devil May Cry, ULTRAKILL and Darkest Dungeon among its inspirations, and says the game is aimed squarely at hardcore players.

What’s in the full release

  • Six weapons, plus dozens of unlockable Talents, Combat Arts and Enhancements
  • A new playable weapon and the long-awaited Final Boss battle
  • The conclusion of major story arcs, told in a gothic pixel-art world
  • Accessibility options including aim assist, difficulty adjustments and combat speed settings

According to the studio, Early Access brought more than 30 patches, covering bug fixes, balance changes, quality-of-life improvements and a full rework of some abilities.

Lightmancer Studios is a six-person team, and BloodRush is its debut game. You can find it on the Xbox Store now. We’ll update you when pricing is confirmed.
