Assassin’s Creed is the action-adventure game that started Ubisoft’s long-running series. Set mainly in the Holy Land in 1191, during the Third Crusade, it follows Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad, an Assassin stripped of his rank who must track down and eliminate nine targets to win back his honour. A modern-day framing story has Desmond Miles reliving Altaïr’s memories through a machine called the Animus.
Play centres on combat, stealth and free-running across the cities of Masyaf, Jerusalem, Acre and Damascus, blending into crowds to get close to targets. Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, it launched on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on 16 November 2007 in Europe. The original Xbox 360 version plays on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S through backward compatibility.
