CI Games has lifted the lid on a major combat overhaul for Lords of the Fallen II, with almost 30 distinct weapon movesets, mid-combo weapon switching and dedicated magic and ranged stances. The soulslike sequel is due in Q1 2027 and is available to wishlist on Xbox Series X|S now.
The details come from ‘Steel & Sorcery’, episode 11 of the studio’s ‘Lifting the Veil’ development series. Chief Creative Officer Ryan Hill leads the chat alongside Lead Combat Designer Mike Vermeulen and two members of the game’s Launch Creative Team, a group recruited from the soulslike community, each with at least 1,000 hours in the genre.

What’s changing?
CI Games says the overhaul builds on player feedback from Lords of the Fallen (2023), and the headline number is almost 30 weapon movesets, up from 15 in the original. Each weapon class gets its own manoeuvres, including repositioning strikes, infinite combo chains and area attacks.
- Mid-combo weapon switching: swap between two melee loadouts mid-combo, as well as flipping between one-handed and two-handed stances.
- New melee options: more weapon classes, counterstrike attacks and boss weapons with signature moves.
- Quickfire abilities: two per melee loadout, for instant spells, projectiles and buffs without changing stance.
- Dedicated magic and ranged stances: with the same mobility as melee.
- Spellcasting: up to four spells per catalyst, swap to a second catalyst for four more, seven schools of magic, and mana restored via the Sanguinarix rather than consumables.
- Ranged builds: infinite base ammo, with stronger variants refilled at points around the world.
- Quality of life: weapon upgrades can be recovered at a small cost, to encourage experimenting later on.
“We want players to feel like a Swiss Army sword, ready to draw from an arsenal of combat options at any moment,” said Hill, adding that “there’s plenty more yet to reveal”.
