The Legend of Khiimori’s Mongolian Expanse Makes Its World Bigger, but Xbox Is Still Waiting

The Legend of Khiimori's Mongolian Expanse adds mountains, desert, new wildlife and the Marwari horse. Here's what Xbox players can expect so far.

The Legend of Khiimori’s open world just got a lot bigger. Mindscape and Aesir Interactive have released The Mongolian Expanse, the first part of a new expansion, adding snowy mountains, desert, new wildlife and a new horse breed. It’s out now in PC Early Access, but the horse-riding adventure is still only available to wishlist on Xbox.

Mindscape announced the update on 4 November. You play as a Yam courier rider in 13th-century Mongolia, breeding, training and bonding with horses while delivering cargo across the steppes.

The Legend of Khiimori on Xbox at a glance

  • Xbox status: Wishlist only on the Xbox Store
  • Xbox release date: Not yet dated
  • Listed for: Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One
  • Game Pass: Not announced

What’s in The Mongolian Expanse

  • New regions: the map pushes past its old edge into the Snowy Mountains and the Desert, with new waystations, Yam nodes, named places, chests and bandit caches to find
  • New wildlife: wild boars, gobi bears and camels now roam the land in herds
  • The Marwari: a tough, agile breed built for heat and cold, bringing the total to six breeds
  • 60+ new horse skills: rare and Legendary skills tied to specific regions and breeds, which you can then breed into your foals

Mindscape says this is only the first part of the expansion, with more of Mongolia opening up in a future update. The patch also brings a batch of gameplay improvements and fixes.

What Xbox players can expect

For now, none of this is playable on Xbox. The Legend of Khiimori has an Xbox Store page listing Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, but it can only be wishlisted, and neither Mindscape nor the Store gives a console release date. There’s no price on the listing either, and the game hasn’t been announced for Game Pass.

What it does mean is that the world waiting for Xbox players keeps growing. The game remains in PC Early Access, which began in March, and Mindscape says more of Mongolia will open up with the next update. It hasn’t said which version of the game will reach Xbox, or when.

We’ll update you as soon as an Xbox date is confirmed.
