The stealth classic, rebuilt
The original Thief, from Looking Glass Studios, arrived in 1998 and was the first stealth game to use light and sound as mechanics, letting you hide in the shadows and creep up on people rather than simply fight them. Nightdive has remastered it using its own KEX Engine, and the package includes all 12 missions from Thief: The Dark Project plus the three extra missions and five new enemy types from 1999’s Thief Gold.
You play as Garrett, an orphan taken in by the secretive Keepers and trained as a master thief, armed with a blackjack, a sword and a quiver of trick arrows. Nightdive has improved the textures, models and animations, made small fixes to the original level design and added modern controller support with a weapon and item wheel and rumble. There’s also a mission selector for replaying completed levels, plus a Vault packed with behind-the-scenes material.
The Tarnished Mirror
The big addition is The Tarnished Mirror, an all-new campaign from the team behind acclaimed fan-made expansion Thief: The Black Parade, now welcomed into official canon. Set after the Trickster’s defeat, it finds Garrett shortchanged and back to small jobs, until the theft of a Precursor hand mirror spirals into imprisonment, uneasy alliances and a descent into a drowned, R’lyeh-like necropolis. Nightdive says it bridges the gap to Thief II: The Metal Age, with new factions, environments, an expanded enemy roster and a heavy dose of Lovecraftian horror.

Which edition should you pre-order?
The standard edition on the Xbox Store is £24.99 / $29.99. The Digital Deluxe Bundle is listed at £29.24 / $34.99 and adds a remaster diary art book, the official soundtrack and an excerpt from an upcoming novelisation of Thief: The Dark Project.
