Queen’s Domain is out now on Xbox Series X|S. The FromSoft-inspired retro-fantasy action RPG from dev duo Freshly Baked Games and publisher Future Friends Games launched on 30 October 2026, and it’s 15% off for its first week.
On the Microsoft Store, the launch discount takes Queen’s Domain on Xbox Series X|S from £16.74 down to £14.22 (US$19.99 down to US$16.99). The store listing shows the offer running until 6 November. It isn’t on Game Pass, and it isn’t an Xbox Play Anywhere title, so this is a straight console purchase.
Washed up on the Isle of Neasied
You wash up on the shores of the Isle of Neasied looking for your missing father, which is never a good start to a holiday. Sinister forces are gathering, secrets are tucked away everywhere, and, in the publisher’s words, “the sleeping Queen has begun to stir”. Future Friends describes it as a retro-fantasy action RPG with brutal combat and traversal-based exploration.
The headline trick is the Legendary Holy Sword Endu, which lets you take flight from platform to platform. Upgrade it and you can fly further, so the sword is as much a way of getting around as it is a way of hitting things. The island itself is one interconnected, labyrinthine world full of secrets and dangers.
Swords, snacks and a lot of bosses
Combat is built around a classic stamina meter, with charge attacks, weapon-specific special attacks and secondary throwing weapons. Here’s what’s in the box, according to Future Friends:
- Weapons: more than 50 melee weapons to find, equip and upgrade, plus over 20 types of throwing weapon.
- Levelling: earn XP to level up, and eat food to boost your stats further.
- Enemies: over 100 enemies, mini-bosses and bosses.
- Length: dozens of hours of adventuring and exploration. The launch release puts typical playtime at 40-plus hours.
The publisher also wrote a set of beginner’s tips on Xbox Wire for launch day. The short version: practise dashing with your sword, learn enemy attack patterns rather than flailing, take the path less trodden, and level up your favourite weapon if you get stuck. Also, the dead sometimes leave hints for the living. Cheery.
300,000 wishlists and some big quotes
Future Friends says Queen’s Domain racked up 300,000 wishlists after it was revealed last December, and that coverage from creator Iron Pineapple has passed 2.2 million views. The launch release also rounds up some early praise:
- PC Gamer: “just the thing for fans of classic FromSoftware games”
- Iron Pineapple: “These devs really get it”
- GameSpot: “This is gonna be a cult classic”
- Rock Paper Shotgun: “brilliant King’s Field-alike”
Freshly Baked Games is Eric and Bradley, two indie developers who previously made the ambient exploration game The New Flesh.
