What is Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Shadows is set in feudal Japan and lets you swap between two heroes. Naoe, a quick-witted shinobi, uses light, sound and shadow to avoid detection, with a grappling hook, shuriken, smoke bombs and the Hidden Blade. Yasuke, a legendary samurai, favours silent bow takedowns and heavy katana and naginata combos. The open world has changing seasons, shifting weather and environmental destruction that affect how you approach each target, and you can play with a Japanese voiceover.

Are there editions or expansions?

The Microsoft Store lists a Digital Deluxe Edition and a Premium Edition. The Premium Edition includes the Claws of Awaji expansion along with the Deluxe Pack.

Is Assassin’s Creed Shadows in Game Pass?

No. It isn’t in any Game Pass tier. The console version and the Windows version are separate products on the Microsoft Store, so it doesn’t support Xbox Play Anywhere.

What’s the latest Shadows news?

Shadows has a cameo in another game. In its Assassin’s Creed Fall 2026 Update on 29 October, Ubisoft revealed that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla‘s New Game+ update on 5 November includes a Master Assassin outfit inspired by Naoe’s look in Shadows. Ubisoft also says feedback on Valhalla’s update will help inform future discussions about bringing similar updates to other Assassin’s Creed games. It hasn’t named Shadows or any other game.
