Eternal Anima has a new “Special Discussion” video series. In it, director Katsuhisa Higuchi sits down with Hironobu Sakaguchi, and the game’s music producer Hitoshi Sakimoto talks with Nobuo Uematsu, ahead of its 4 March 2027 launch on Xbox Series X|S.

Marvelous USA has released the first two episodes with English subtitles. They give a closer look at how Eternal Anima, a new legacy-driven RPG from a team of genre veterans, came together.

Legacy, treasure chests and time travel

The first episode reunites Higuchi with Mistwalker’s Hironobu Sakaguchi, who developed RPGs together for many years. They discuss the game’s central theme of “legacy”, their views on the genre, and small details like what goes in treasure chests.

They also explain how the studio approached a time-travelling story without creating paradoxes, and how Psychometry is used both to learn new skills and in the Future Sight Battle combat system.

Sakimoto and Uematsu on the music

In the second episode, Hitoshi Sakimoto of Basiscape, the game’s music producer, is joined by guest composer Nobuo Uematsu. They talk about musical expression and the challenges of scoring RPGs, their hopes for the next generation of composers, and how that thinking shaped Eternal Anima’s soundtrack.

What kind of game is it?

Eternal Anima sends you across several continents with distinct cultures, teaming up with ancestors and descendants across time. Your actions in the past affect the present, and the hero, Wade, can use Psychometry to read memories stored in artefacts and inherit the abilities and classes of past heroes.

In Future Sight Battles, you can see enemy actions before they happen, then delay or cancel them with your own commands.
