What is Eternal Anima?

It’s a legacy-driven RPG inspired by the golden era of the genre, mixing retro charm with modern design. You travel across multiple continents with distinct cultures and team up with ancestors and descendants across time. What you do in the past changes the present, and you can empower allies with the abilities of their ancestors.

Who is making it?

Marvelous is developing the game, with Katsuhisa Higuchi as director. The team includes story concept writer Keisuke Makino, scenario writer Kazushige Nojima and music producer Hitoshi Sakimoto, with Nobuo Uematsu as a guest composer. The game was first teased as “PROJECT LIFE is RPG” before it was revealed as Eternal Anima on 9 September 2026.

When is the Eternal Anima release date?

4 March 2027 on Xbox Series X|S, as part of a worldwide launch.

How much will it cost on Xbox?

Marvelous hasn’t announced Xbox pricing yet, and says digital edition details will follow. A physical Standard Edition is planned for Xbox Series X|S in Europe.

Is Eternal Anima on Game Pass?

Not as far as we know. It hasn’t been announced for Game Pass.

How does combat work?

Future Sight Battles put a tactical twist on classic turn-based combat. You can see what enemies are about to do, then plan around it, and your commands can delay or cancel their moves so you control the flow of battle.

What is Psychometry?

It’s the power of the hero, Wade. He can decipher memories by drawing on the power within artefacts, which lets him inherit the abilities and classes of heroes from the past. You can then combine them to find your own playstyle.

What’s in the Special Discussion videos?

Marvelous USA has released two subtitled episodes. In the first, Higuchi and Mistwalker’s Hironobu Sakaguchi discuss the “legacy” theme, treasure chest contents, time travel without paradoxes and Psychometry. In the second, Sakimoto and Uematsu talk about scoring RPGs and the next generation of composers. For more, read our report on the video series.

Where can I watch the videos?

The Special Discussion episodes are the latest videos, and you can find more on the official Eternal Anima website.
