The Antonov An-28, a rugged twin-turboprop utility plane, is out now in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 as Local Legend 26. It costs $14.99 in the in-sim Marketplace.

The An-28 arrived in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on 26 October. It’s a light short take-off and landing (STOL) aircraft flown by two pilots, and it can carry up to 17 passengers or 4,000 lb of cargo. Antonov built 191 of them between 1975 and 1993.

Where did the An-28 come from?

Antonov started work on it in the mid-1960s, after Aeroflot asked for a small, short-range airliner. It was based on the An-14, an earlier STOL design. A turboprop-powered An-14A flew in 1969 as a proof of concept, and the first An-28 prototype flew on 29 January 1973. It has since been used for passenger flights, freight, air ambulance work, military transport, aerial photography and surveying.

Two 960 hp Glushenkov TVD-10B turboprops each turn a three-blade propeller. The An-28 cruises at 219 mph, has a range of 851 miles and a ceiling of 19,685 ft, and needs only a 1,350 ft take-off run and a 1,033 ft landing roll.
