New Game+ is finally docking. The official Assassin’s Creed account confirmed on X that the next update for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced arrives tomorrow, Tuesday 27 October, with New Game+, a Nightmare Mode and “plenty of new treasure to uncover”. Ubisoft has since published the full patch notes: it’s Title Update 1.0.8, it goes live at 14:00 UTC, and it’s 15.5 GB on Xbox Series X|S.

Ubisoft calls it the game’s final major content update. After this, the team says it will follow up with quality-of-life updates over the coming months.

To be clear on which Black Flag this is: it’s Resynced, the ground-up remake of Edward Kenway’s pirate adventure led by Ubisoft Singapore, which launched on Xbox Series X|S on 9 July 2026. This isn’t an update for the original 2013 game.

What’s in Title Update 1.0.8

  • New Game+: Edward’s tools, upgrades, weapons and trinkets carry over, along with the Jackdaw’s upgrades, officer abilities and pets, your money and materials, outfits, hideout progression, the Kenway fleet and your Codex. Quest items are removed. Each run makes the seas more dangerous, up to New Game+++++ (five times).
  • Escudos: a new currency for New Game+ runs, earned through challenges and by looting previously completed chests, or exchanged for Reales at the General Store. It buys new outfits and items exclusive to New Game+.
  • Nightmare Mode: enemies deal 1.8x damage, the parry window is shorter, attacks lose their white glint and the one-shot kill safety is switched off. Detection is much faster, and enemies can hear Edward moving faster than a walk. Ship damage is higher, and sharks, urchins and jellyfish hit harder underwater.
  • Hidden community chests, some with rewards the community asked for.
  • Takedowns from the original game, including hidden blade, unarmed, single sword and gunblade takedowns.
  • New cosmetics, including outfits, pet skins and trinkets earned through New Game+.

There’s also a long list of fixes, including more Rogue Waves during storms, a fix for Deluxe Edition owners not seeing the Blackbeard items as owned, and quest fixes for missions such as “We Demand a Parley” and “Captain Stede Bonnet”.

How Ubisoft sets the scene

The patch notes don’t add new story missions, characters or locations. Instead, Ubisoft frames the new content around Edward’s return to sea. New Game+ comes with the tagline “Set Sail Again (& Again & Again & Again & Again)”, inviting players to “leap back into Edward Kenway’s legendary journey” and rebuild the crew. That rebuild is literal: the Jackdaw’s officers keep their unlocked abilities but have to be recruited again, and the map’s fog resets, so forts must be taken over again. Each new cycle sends more Elite Soldiers and max-rank ships out on patrol.

Nightmare Mode is pitched as “a brutal fight for survival where every duel can be your last”, with Ubisoft adding that “the Caribbean is as beautiful as ever, but beneath the waves and beyond the horizon, death awaits the unprepared.”

The new treasure comes as community chests. Ubisoft says it has made these harder to find and won’t give “any easy hints”, signing off with “Good luck Pirates!” The notes close with the team thanking players for their support, fan art and Photo Mode shots.

A long time coming

Players have wanted New Game+ since launch, and Ubisoft knew it. When Title Update 1.0.7 came out on 1 September with options to hide Edward’s pistols and switch off perk visual effects, the team’s replies to fans said New Game+ was “in the works”. On 22 October the Assassin’s Creed account posted that New Game+ was “coming to Black Flag Resynced next week!”

The same account also promised more Assassin’s Creed news this week. On Thursday, Head of Content Jean Guesdon will give an update on the wider franchise. We’ve covered that separately: Assassin’s Creed boss Jean Guesdon to share franchise update this Thursday.

Where to get it on Xbox

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is on Xbox Series X|S, and the Microsoft Store lists it at £49.99 / $59.99. The Deluxe Edition is £59.99 / $69.99. It isn’t part of the Game Pass library.
