Team NINJA has been listening, and the message from Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember’s Alpha Demo was clear. The developer has published the results of its post-demo survey alongside a long list of changes for the full game, and the big ones are friendlier Insight Skills, a Spirit rebalance and a proper push on optimisation and graphics.
Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember launches on 4 March 2027 for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, and it’s day one with Game Pass.
What players said
The Alpha Demo ran from 16 to 30 September 2026 and dropped players into the open field of Changban, fighting alongside Liu Bei’s army against Cao Cao’s pursuing forces. Overall, 71.9% of respondents rated the experience positively, 17.0% called it average and 11.1% were negative.
Changban itself went down best, with 73.9% positive. Music and sound effects scored 71.7% positive, and 60.4% were happy with the difficulty. Insight Skills (65.7%), Divine Beast Manifestation (63.7%) and the Morale Rank and Additional Level systems (66.2%) all landed well too.
Graphics were the weak spot. Only 49.7% rated them positively and 19.8% were negative. Optimisation on PC fared worse: just 24.8% of PC players were positive about it and 50.5% were negative. That’s the number Team NINJA clearly can’t ignore.
For weapons, the Straight Sabre was the favourite by a distance (58.3%), ahead of Jointed Flails (40.7%), Staff (32.8%), Glaive (27.3%), Spear (25.7%) and Hammer (15.3%).
What’s changing for the full game
Team NINJA says it’ll prioritise three areas: action, optimisation and graphics.
- Insight Skills: simpler inputs and wider timing windows for Deflects and Insight Skills. Landing an Insight Skill will restore more Spirit, and new skills will cut the Spirit cost of your next move afterwards.
- Spirit and aggression: Spirit gain and loss is being rebalanced to reward proactive play. Strong Attacks and Martial Arts will chip away more of an enemy’s maximum Spirit gauge, and a new skill keeps your Quick Attack combo going after a successful Deflect or Insight Skill.
- Wizardry Spells: limited-use spells are being reviewed and buffed, and some new spells can be cast while airborne. You’ll also be able to switch weapons mid-air.
- Aerial combat: better hit range and homing for air attacks, and flying enemies such as Yayu and Feitouman will no longer drift out of reach.
- Performance: a more stable frame rate, shorter load times for Fast Travel and retries, and less model pop-in.
- Graphics: better texture quality and distant detail, improved lighting indoors and in dark areas, and toned-down Demonic Qi and fire effects so you can actually see what’s going on.
- Camera and controls: a calmer lock-on camera, more reliable target switching, a camera that stops swaying during aerial fights, and more gamepad customisation.
- Quality of life: a bigger item limit, a map that zooms out further and tracks collectibles, tutorial reminders in the field, and restarting inside the Phantom Realm if you die there.
- Co-op: progress now saves in co-op, guests can roam further from the host, and matchmaking and online stability are getting work.
The full list is on Team NINJA’s Alpha Demo Feedback Report. If you finished the demo, don’t delete your save data. You need it to claim the Alpha Demo completion bonus in the full game, although the demo itself can go.
