Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is out on Netflix today, with all ten episodes released at once, so your evening plans have probably just been cancelled. CD PROJEKT RED has used the occasion to announce a free update for Cyberpunk 2077, and it arrives on Thursday 22 October.
A new crew in Night City
The new series, once again made with Studio TRIGGER, is standalone, so you don’t need to have recovered from the first season to follow it. It has an entirely new cast: a veteran edgerunner, a young cinephile, a chrome obsessed delinquent and a Snake Nation netrunner, caught up in what CDPR describes as a tale of vengeance and redemption. Kai Ikarashi directs, Kanno Ichigo is lead character designer, and Masahiko Otsuka returns alongside Hugo Award winner Bartosz Sztybor, who serves as showrunner, story writer and producer. Both seasons stream exclusively on Netflix.
What we know about Update 2.5
Officially titled the Edgerunners 2 Update, Update 2.5 brings content inspired by the anime along with “a range of other new items and features”. CDPR’s REDstreams announcement adds a little more detail, promising cyberware customisation, a new dual wielding playstyle “and more”. Beyond that, CDPR is keeping the specifics to itself for another day.
Full details arrive on Wednesday 21 October in a special REDstreams episode at 4pm UK time (5pm CEST), broadcast on Twitch, YouTube and Steam. The official patch notes are due the same day, which leaves roughly a day to read them before the update goes live.
Update 2.5 on GeForce NOW
Cyberpunk 2077 is already on GeForce NOW through Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG. Update 2.5 lands on the same day as GFN Thursday, and because the game is already on the service, the patch should be picked up automatically once it goes live on those stores. NVIDIA hasn’t confirmed the timing, so if the new version isn’t there the minute CDPR releases it, give it a little while.

Cyberpunk 2077 price on Steam
Conveniently for anyone who finishes the anime and suddenly needs more Night City, Cyberpunk 2077 is currently 70% off on Steam at £14.99 / $17.99, down from £49.99 / $59.99. The Phantom Liberty expansion is 40% off at £14.99 / $17.99, down from £24.99 / $29.99. Deal trackers list the sale as running until 26 October, which means it outlasts the update’s launch by a few days. Netflix, sadly, is not included.
