If you’ve been around Cloudy with Games for a while, you’ll know it used to be about one thing: cloud gaming. All of it, 100% of the time. So I owe you an explanation for why the site you’re reading now is an Xbox site.
Where Cloudy came from
Stadia got me excited again. Cloud gaming promised so much, and that excitement got me making content again. When Stadia closed, we concentrated on GeForce NOW. Honestly, we found that hard. The content the team and I wanted to make just didn’t really suit it.
Xbox, though, is my happy place. The Xbox 360 is what got me back into gaming after years away. I loved OnLive, which came out around the same time, but when OnLive died, Xbox is where I went.
For a while I’ve been waiting to see what Xbox would do, because it kept making mistakes. Now it’s in a reset, tightening up and focusing on what matters, and that’s exactly why I trust the direction it’s heading. It might even start doing some fun stuff with cloud again. For me, that felt like the moment to make the change.
What Cloudy is now
Everything here is new, and it’s how I’d have wanted Cloudy to be in the first place. That means Game Pass verdicts and a tier list, the Xbox news worth your time, cloud gaming coverage on xCloud and beyond, and opinion pieces where I tell you what I actually think.
We’re writing for Xbox gamers. We’ll still cover xCloud, and occasionally other cloud platforms too, so the cloud side of Cloudy isn’t going anywhere. It just isn’t the whole story any more.
Our approach is simple: honest to the max, but grounded. We’ll say things you might not want to hear, but we won’t be reactionary for the sake of it. This isn’t a drama site and we’re not going looking for drama. It’s what it is, how it is, my take, and other takes too.
Most of all, it’s about the games, because that’s all that matters. If you don’t have the games, everything else doesn’t matter. That’s why you’ll find a growing set of game hubs on the site, and why there’s a Game Pass tier list for you to argue with.
So that’s the story of how we got here, and where we’re going next.
Finally, thank you all for your support. And a special thank you to those of you who’ve been asking me to start doing things again. This is for you.
Come and tell me what you think on X or Facebook.
