Almost five years after it first deployed on Xbox, Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector has quietly picked up a PC version on its Xbox Store listing. The change was spotted by redphx, who noted the game “now comes with the PC version”, but without the usual Xbox Play Anywhere tag.
We checked Microsoft’s store catalogue ourselves. The single purchasable edition of the game now covers both Xbox consoles and Windows PC, with separate console and PC packages under the same product. The listing still carries no Xbox Play Anywhere attribute, so the store isn’t advertising it as such, yet.
Publisher Slitherine, on the other hand, is not being shy about it. In an announcement on 16 October, it said Xbox Play Anywhere support would launch on 29 October, replacing the separate Xbox and Windows Store versions with one version that runs on both. According to Slitherine, that brings:
- Live multiplayer between PC and Xbox console players
- Saves and achievement progress shared across Xbox and PC
- Xbox owners able to download the game and their owned DLC through the Xbox app on PC
Owners of the old Windows Store version get their game and DLC entitlements copied across, but Slitherine says their saves and achievements can’t be carried over. The old version is being delisted and won’t receive further updates.
The change arrived with the game’s 1.8.0 Warhammer Day update, which also adds a new Skirmish map, new variant loadouts and a major Tyranid rebalance. Slitherine has also announced a new story campaign DLC, Courage & Catastrophe, for 14 December, though it hasn’t yet confirmed it for Xbox.
