Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector is out now on Xbox. Our latest news story is Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector now includes the PC version on Xbox.

What is Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector?

It’s a fast-paced turn-based strategy game set in the grimdark universe of the 41st Millennium. You pick your force, build your army, field heroes and fight for victory with abilities and heavy weaponry, according to the Xbox Store listing.

When did it come out, and on which Xbox platforms?

It launched on Xbox on 2 December 2021. It plays on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, and the same Store listing now includes a Windows PC version that you get through the Xbox app.

Is Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector on Xbox Play Anywhere?

Slitherine says it is. In an announcement on 16 October 2026, it said Xbox Play Anywhere support would launch on 29 October, replacing the separate Xbox and Windows Store versions with one version that runs on both. According to Slitherine, that brings:

  • Live multiplayer between Xbox console and PC players
  • Shared saves across Xbox and PC
  • PC downloads: Xbox owners can download the game and their owned DLC through the Xbox app on PC

When we checked the Microsoft Store catalogue on 30 October 2026, the single purchase covered both Xbox consoles and Windows PC, but the listing didn’t yet carry the Xbox Play Anywhere label. Owners of the old Windows Store version have their game and DLC entitlements copied across, but Slitherine says their saves can’t be moved over. That old version is being delisted and won’t get further updates.

Is Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector on Game Pass?

No. It isn’t in the Game Pass library, and no Game Pass release has been announced.

How much does it cost?

It’s £33.49 / $39.99 on the Xbox Store.

What modes does it have?

  • Age of Crimson Dawn: a 20-mission single-player campaign set after the Devastation of Baal. You help Sergeant Carleon and his allies purge the Tyranid infestation on Baal Secundus and preserve the honour of the Blood Angels
  • Skirmish: pick the faction you lead and the one you face, choose your map and customise your army list, with Exterminatus, Conqueror and Strategic Command objectives
  • Planetary Supremacy: a conquest-style skirmish campaign, added in a free update, where you capture territory and resources across procedurally generated battles
  • Multiplayer: live multiplayer against a friend

Each faction has its own Momentum system that can Surge units into chains of extra actions, and Command Points call in air support such as the Blood Angels’ Stormraven or the Tyranid Harpy.

What’s the latest update?

Slitherine released the 1.8.0 Warhammer Day update on 29 October 2026. It brought:

  • Xbox Play Anywhere support
  • A new damage calculation system
  • A major rebalance of the Tyranid faction
  • New variant loadouts across the factions
  • A new Skirmish map

What’s next for Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector?

Slitherine hasn’t confirmed any further Xbox content beyond the 1.8.0 update yet. We’ll add anything it confirms for the Xbox version here.

Who is making it?

Black Lab Games develops it and Slitherine publishes it. It’s rated PEGI 16.

Everything we’ve written about the game is in one place on our Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector hub, and we’ll keep this page updated as Slitherine shares more.
