SNØ: Ultimate Freeriding, the endless downhill ski game from Studio Gauntlet, is out now on Xbox Series X|S. AMATA Games handled the console version and launched it on 28 October for £10.49 / $13.99, with Xbox Play Anywhere support.
It was one of the games we flagged in this week’s new Xbox games.
What is SNØ: Ultimate Freeriding?
SNØ is a minimalist downhill skiing game focused on the simple thrill of carving through snow. Two developers in Norway made it, and AMATA Games took on the console porting and publishing.
Every mountain is procedurally generated, so the slopes never run out. You carve your way down, pull off tricks and high-risk proximity moves right on the edge of obstacles, and chase a high score. Getting to grips with the controls and the terrain is the key to the top spots.
Skis, snowboard or sit-ski
There are three riding styles: skis, snowboard and sit-ski. Skins unlock based on your skill, and you can switch between first-person, third-person and drone cameras, or take shots in photo mode.
Global and friends leaderboards track the best runs, and you can visit top-scoring mountains straight from the leaderboards. Mountains can also be shared and revisited using seeds. If you’d rather not chase scores, ZEN mode strips them out and leaves just you and the mountain.
It’s a single-player game, with no online multiplayer.
