When did Gothic 1 Remake come out on Xbox?

Gothic 1 Remake launched on Xbox Series X|S on 5 June 2026.

Is Gothic 1 Remake on Game Pass?

No. It isn’t included with any Game Pass tier, so it’s a straight purchase. We’ll update this page if that changes.

How much is Gothic 1 Remake?

It’s normally £49.99 / $59.99 on the Microsoft Store. Until 5 November it’s 25% off at £37.49 / $44.99.

Is there a Gothic 1 Remake demo?

Yes. The free Gothic 1 Remake demo on Xbox is a stand-alone prologue called Welcome to the Colony. It tells a new story: the first day of a fresh inmate in the prison colony.

What is Gothic 1 Remake about?

The Kingdom of Myrtana is at war with the orcs. To arm his troops, King Rhobar II sends prisoners to mine magical ore in the Khorinis mines, and has his mages raise a magic barrier to stop anyone escaping. The spell goes wrong and traps everyone inside, and the prisoners take over the Colony. You play the Nameless Hero, a new prisoner thrown into the middle of it.

How does Gothic 1 Remake play?

It’s a single-player open-world RPG rebuilt from the ground up. You explore the Valley of Mines freely, choose which of three factions to join, and the NPCs and wildlife follow their own daily routines. The remake adds expanded questlines, more NPC routines and reactions, new traversal abilities and a modernised combat system. THQ Nordic says it offers more than 50 hours of play.

What’s in Feature Update 1?

The first Feature Update arrived on 29 October 2026 as a free update. It adds:

  • Photo Mode: opened from the pause menu, with a range of options for setting up shots
  • Marvin Mode: the official Gothic cheat mode, which can open locks, teleport you, and spawn items, characters and creatures
  • Brotherhood customisation: as a member of the Swamp Camp, the Nameless Hero can get a new haircut and tattoos
  • Bench waiting: you can now sit on a bench and wait

It also improves crafted weapon stats, adds more sound reactions and fixes quests across chapters 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6. Read our Feature Update 1 story for the full list.

What’s next for Gothic 1 Remake?

In August 2026, Alkimia Interactive said it would keep fixing and polishing the game, and listed Photo Mode, Marvin Mode, alternative progression mechanics and a mod kit as planned features. Photo Mode and Marvin Mode are now out. No dates have been given for alternative progression or the mod kit, and Alkimia hasn’t said whether mod support will come to Xbox.

Who makes Gothic 1 Remake?

Alkimia Interactive, based in Barcelona, developed the remake, and THQ Nordic, based in Vienna, published it. It’s a remake of the original 2001 Gothic.
