It took a while, but it’s finally here. Ubisoft has released Title Update 1.8.0 for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which it’s calling “The Most Requested Update”, and the headline addition is New Game+. The update went live on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One today, 5 November 2026, at 2pm GMT.

“We know this has been a request for ages, and we appreciate your patience,” Ubisoft says in its patch notes. Alongside New Game+, the update adds a new Mithril resource, a higher upgrade cap for Divine gear, a Stash in Ravensthorpe, a reworked Rune Forge and two new achievements.

How to start New Game+ in Valhalla

New Game+ lets you begin Eivor’s saga all over again once you’ve finished the main story. To unlock it, you’ll need to complete the Holy Day quest, the last quest in the Hamtunscire region. Ubisoft points out that this comes before the game’s true ending, but says that “since it is a very big game” it decided to let players start New Game+ a little earlier.

Each New Game+ run gets progressively harder, so there’s a fresh challenge waiting for anyone who wants to go round again (and again).

Mithril, Platinum and Divine gear

Mithril is the update’s new resource. In New Game+, picking up a piece of gear or a book of knowledge you already own now rewards you with Mithril instead. You can also find it in the Niflheim, Mastery and River Raid shops, which gives endgame players another way to keep stocked up.

There’s good news for players who skipped the Dawn of Ragnarok expansion, too. Looting Carbon, Nickel or Tungsten from a Wealth Chest now gives you Platinum, an ingot that was previously only available in that DLC. As a result, upgrading gear to Divine quality no longer requires Dawn of Ragnarok.

To keep pace with tougher New Game+ runs, the maximum upgrade level for each piece of Divine gear has been raised from 13 to 27. Every one of those extra upgrades costs Mithril, so, as Ubisoft puts it, “you will need a lot of it”. There’s also a new Naoe Master Assassin outfit to show off while you grind.

Extended Progression Mode, Stash and Rune Forge

Extended Progression Mode is a new gameplay option for anyone who wants a more granular sense of progression. With it turned on, gear upgrades and runes each raise your Power by one point, and Masteries add Power every five skill points. Ubisoft says the mode is meant to make your gear matter more: “The challenge is greater, but the reward is great for the mighty.”

Struggling for inventory space? A new Stash in Ravensthorpe lets you store any gear and runes you aren’t using.

The Rune Forge has had an overhaul as well. A new tab lets you spend silver to upgrade runes from lesser to normal and from normal to greater. You can then push them to a brand-new superior tier, but that final step costs Mithril rather than silver. The engrave page now has more than 300 engravable runes, covering every perk added since launch, including those from DLC and the Helix Store. If you own a weapon or a full armour set, you can engrave its perks into a rune for 450 silver.

New achievements and balancing changes

Achievement hunters have two new ones to chase:

  • Ivaldi’s Heir: Fully upgrade a Divine Gear
  • Circle of Renewal: Complete a New Game+ run

Ubisoft has also made “lots of small balancing changes”. These are designed to make dual wielding feel better and to improve stat runes, and they also rebalance skill masteries and their bonuses. The Raven, Bear and Wolf Masteries have all been reworked, and damage values have been adjusted across most weapon types. If you want every number, you’ll find them in Ubisoft’s full patch notes.
