Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has been out on Xbox since 23 October 2026. Our latest story is the release of the game’s original score.
What is Modern Warfare 4?
War erupts on the Korean Peninsula as North Korea launches a full-scale invasion. A young squad of South Korean soldiers fights to survive on the collapsing front lines, while half a world away a vengeful Captain Price wages a personal war from the shadows, staying one step ahead of those hunting him. As Price’s off-book mission collides with the forces behind the invasion, the war spreads beyond anyone’s control.
- Campaign: trench warfare in Korea, close-quarters combat in New York, chases through Paris, SAS night raids in Mumbai and city-wide assaults to reclaim occupied territory
- Multiplayer: grounded, precise combat built around fluid movement and player choice
- DMZ: you play an off-the-books asset behind enemy lines, choosing which objectives to pursue, what to secure and when to extract
When did it come out, and on which Xbox platforms?
It launched on 23 October 2026, and Xbox Wire marked the worldwide launch that day. The Xbox game page says it’s available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, and not on Xbox One.
Is it on Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming?
Yes, it’s an Xbox Play Anywhere title, so buying it once covers both Xbox Series X|S and the Xbox app on PC. The Xbox game page also says it’s cloud playable with Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate, but you still need to buy the game.
Is Modern Warfare 4 on Game Pass?
Not yet. It launched as a separate purchase, and Activision says it won’t be included with Game Pass until Holiday 2027.
How much does it cost?
- Standard Edition: £69.99 / $69.99 on the Xbox Store
- Vault Edition: £99.99 / $99.99. It adds the Hostile Alliance and Special Forces Operator Packs, the Signature Weapon Collection, one season of BlackCell, a DMZ Deployment Bonus and more
- Vault Edition Upgrade: £30 / $30 for Standard Edition owners
The Xbox game page notes that online multiplayer needs a Game Pass Essential subscription, sold separately.
