The Clans have arrived. Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest, the action-adventure RPG based on Erin Hunter’s best-selling Warrior Cats novels, is out now on Xbox Series X|S, and it’s an Xbox Play Anywhere title, so one purchase covers your console and Windows PC.
Trailmark Games publishes it in partnership with Four Trees Media, the company behind the Warrior Cats brand, and Bamtang Games handles development. The standard edition costs £24.99 / $29.99 on the Microsoft Store. It isn’t on Game Pass.
What is Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest?
You make your own Warrior Cat, pick a Clan and live the Clan life in the Lake Territories from the books. That means hunting prey, foraging for materials, crafting items for your den and climbing the ranks, while rivals, predators and prophecies from StarClan get in the way.
The main Prophecy Mode has four original story campaigns, one for each Clan, so ThunderClan’s forest, RiverClan’s marshes, ShadowClan’s pine swamps and WindClan’s moors all get a story of their own. The sacred Moonpool and the Island are on the map too, and you’ll climb trees, track scents and solve environmental puzzles on your way round. Characters, quests and stories are procedurally generated, so no two runs play out exactly the same.
Combat is turn-based, with battles of up to three against three. There are 75 combat moves to unlock, plus combat stances, Clan-specific moves and ancestor attacks granted by StarClan. Enemies run from mice and squirrels up to badgers, foxes, Dobermanns and rival Clan cats, and there are boss fights too.
Modes, customisation and online
- Prophecy Mode: four original Clan stories with branching choices.
- Defender Mode: one run against the game’s toughest enemies to see how long you last.
- Skirmish Mode: asynchronous online battles against other players.
- Cat Creator: fur, patterns, colours, tails, whiskers, ears, eyes and markings, with millions of combinations.
- Den visits: decorate your den, visit friends’ camps online and gift them resources or crafted items.
Nine cats from the books appear alongside an original cast written for the game.

The Feral Edition adds the Prophecy Pack: eight extra Cat Creator items, 12 wearable accessories, a cel-shaded character skin, four photo mode poses and four photo mode effects. A boxed Xbox Series X version follows on 6 November, according to Trailmark.
