Monster Train 2: The Punished Arrives on Xbox on 10 November With a Clan That Feeds on Pain

Monster Train 2 is getting its last big piece of post-launch content. The Punished, a premium DLC that adds a new playable Clan built around hurting your own units, arrives on Xbox on 10 November for $7.99.

Developer Shiny Shoe and publisher Big Fan Games confirmed the date on 28 October, along with a new milestone: Monster Train 2 has now passed one million players.

Turning pain into power

The Punished are led by a new playable champion, Archus, Darkness Incarnate. Once an angel of Heaven, Archus spent his life in the shadow of his older brother, Seraph, tried to overthrow him and was cast into Heaven’s Maw for it. There, he found the power to turn suffering into strength.

That’s the whole idea of the Clan. You deliberately damage your own units to trigger their abilities. Punish effects fire when a unit is hit by friendly spells or abilities, Bloodshed rewards you whenever a friendly unit takes damage on the same floor, and Chained makes enemies share the pain. Tenacious stops friendly damage from landing the killing blow, which opens the door to riskier builds.

The Punished also bring the Monolith. During a battle, you can sacrifice cards to it to build Devotion, while Zeal strengthens The Punished’s units. The more damage you inflict on your own side, the stronger the Clan gets.

The end of the road for post-launch updates

Big Fan says The Punished will conclude Monster Train 2’s series of post-launch content. The game has had several free updates since launch, plus the paid Destiny of the Railforged DLC, which added the Railforged Clan and a new Soul Savior run type.

Monster Train 2 is an Xbox Play Anywhere game, and the base game is included with Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium and PC Game Pass. The Punished is a separate purchase.
