Gravhounds is a co-op action shooter where you play as a pack of bio-engineered dogs doing dangerous jobs on hostile planets. It’s the first game from Octopus Panic, and it was revealed on Xbox Wire in August.
When is the Gravhounds release date?
Gravhounds launches in Game Preview on Monday 2 November 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, according to Octopus Panic’s reveal post on Xbox Wire. Game Preview means the game is still in development, so expect it to change over time. The Microsoft Store listing is live, but it still shows a placeholder release date.
Is Gravhounds on Game Pass?
Yes. Xbox Wire confirms Gravhounds is coming day one with Xbox Game Pass, so it’ll be in Game Pass Ultimate from launch. Xbox hasn’t named any other tiers yet. It’s one of the first new arrivals in our Xbox Game Pass November 2026 line-up.
Price, demo and Play Anywhere
The Microsoft Store doesn’t show a price or a pre-order option yet. It does confirm Xbox Play Anywhere, so your progress and purchase carry across Xbox Series X|S and the Xbox PC app.
If you want to try it first, a free Gravhounds demo is listed on the Microsoft Store for Xbox console and PC.
Who is making Gravhounds?
Octopus Panic is a seven-person studio, and Gravhounds is its first game. Co-founder Josh Holmes wrote the Xbox Wire reveal, and he says the team’s past work includes Halo, Battlefield, Star Wars, Full Spectrum Warrior, Def Jam: Fight for NY and The Saboteur.
What kind of game is Gravhounds?
You’re a bio-engineered canine worker stranded on the far side of the galaxy, taking orders from an AI supervisor called COSMO. The Store sums up the job description as “Loyal. Obedient. Expendable.”
Each shift follows the same loop. You take a job, drop onto a planet, build an operation and then extract before the alien swarm overwhelms you. The longer you stay, the harder it gets, and the riskier planets have the best materials. Octopus Panic says every shift is “a bet on how much your pack can handle”.
Key features
- The Grav Beam: grab and throw objects and enemies, or fling items to teammates. The Store warns that carrying volatile materials “may result in unforeseen loss of Gravhounds”.
- Base building: run pipelines across the terrain to carry power and resources, then place turrets, generators and fabricators along them.
- Reward Pods: these hold random weapons and upgrades, so no two shifts play out the same.
- Movement: a propulsion rig lets you boost, hover and grind along your own pipelines.
- Progression: unlock new Gravhounds, weapons and upgrade paths, and stack abilities mid-shift.
Co-op and modes
Gravhounds supports one to four players. Octopus Panic calls it “intense alone, chaotic with a crew”. The Store listing shows online co-op, shared split-screen and cross-platform co-op, though Octopus Panic hasn’t detailed any modes beyond the core shift loop.
