Formula Legends has finally gone online on Xbox. 3DClouds’ free multiplayer update for its retro-styled open-wheel racer is out now on Xbox Series X|S, so you can take any race, championship or car combination in the game online.

The Milan studio released the update on Thursday 29 October, just over a year after Formula Legends launched in September 2025. It costs nothing extra if you already own the game, and 3DClouds marked the occasion with a new launch trailer.

How Formula Legends multiplayer works

Online races are hosted peer-to-peer, and every open lobby shows up in an in-game server browser, so you can browse and jump straight in. If you’d rather run your own grid, you can host public races or lock them behind a password for private sessions with friends.

Hosts get plenty to play with. 3DClouds says you can pick from dozens of eras, tracks and settings, including weather conditions, race length, mandatory pit stops and era-dependent track layouts. Back in September, the studio said online sessions support up to 10 players, with ranked and unranked options.

“When we first conceptualised Formula Legends we wanted it to be a racing game that brought people together, regardless of which era of motorsport they cherished,” said 3DClouds CEO Francesco Bruschi. “These eras and their different challenges and flavours truly come alive when you compare and contrast them in back-to-back online races.”

100,000 sales and more on the way

Formula Legends is 3DClouds’ own take on the last 70 years of top-tier open-wheel motorsport, with fictional cars and drivers inspired by real ones and a “simulation meets arcade” handling model. The studio says it has now sold more than 100,000 copies, and it promises more free content updates and paid DLC to come.
