What is Assassin’s Creed Unity?

Set during the French Revolution, from 1789 to 1794, it follows the Assassin Arno Dorian as he tries to expose the true powers behind the Revolution while seeking revenge on those responsible for the murder of his adoptive father.

The game reworked the series’ combat, parkour and stealth, and added co-operative missions for up to four players. Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, it was released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on 14 November 2014 in the UK.

How to play Assassin’s Creed Unity on Xbox today

Assassin’s Creed Unity is an Xbox One game that also plays on Xbox Series X|S. It is included with Game Pass Ultimate through Ubisoft+ Classics, which has been part of Ultimate since October 2025. Microsoft’s UK catalogue lists it for Xbox console and Xbox Cloud Gaming, so Ultimate members can also stream it. Catalogues change, so check the Xbox app before you subscribe. See our guide to every Assassin’s Creed game on Xbox and Game Pass for the full list.

Editions and remasters

Unity plays on Xbox Series X|S through backward compatibility, and in March 2026 Ubisoft added a free patch that lets it run at 60 frames per second on those consoles. There is no remaster.

DLC and expansions

Dead Kings is the main story expansion, adding seven achievements worth 300 Gamerscore. The co-op missions are part of the base game and can also be played solo.

Assassin’s Creed Unity achievements

On Xbox, Assassin’s Creed Unity has 57 achievements worth 1,300 Gamerscore: 50 (1,000G) in the base game and 7 (300G) from DLC and updates. By our average across several achievement and trophy guides, it rates 4/10 for difficulty, and a completion takes roughly 40 to 60 hours, mostly for the base game.

Nothing is missable. Eight achievements are tied to co-op missions, which can also be played solo.

Where it sits in the series

Unity was the first main game made only for the Xbox One generation and was released on the same day as Rogue. It is followed by Syndicate. A mobile side-scroller, Arno’s Chronicles, loosely adapted its story but never came to Xbox. By the release dates on our game hubs, it came after Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD (15 January 2014) and before Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China (21 April 2015). It shares its release date with Assassin’s Creed Rogue.
