AMD’s machine-learning upscaler is now officially in Xbox developers’ hands. AMD FSR Upscaling 4.1.2 is available for Xbox Series X|S, with a new Microsoft GDK sample showing studios how to use both a Full and a Lite model.

Xbox’s Jason Ronald confirmed the news on X, saying: “AMD FSR Upscaling 4.1.2 on XBOX Series X|S is available to developers today! Our new GDK sample demonstrates both Full and Lite models, optimized for each console.” He also thanked AMD for “the great collaboration”.

New to upscaling? Our guide to what AMD FSR is explains it in plain terms.

AMD FSR 4 on Xbox at a glance

  • Version: AMD FSR Upscaling 4.1.2
  • Consoles: Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S
  • Models: Full and Lite, both on both consoles
  • Available to: developers now, via the October 2026 Microsoft GDK

What’s new

According to AMD’s GPUOpen post, this is the first time its machine-learning FSR upscaling has come to Xbox consoles. Developers already using the older, non-machine-learning FSR on Xbox now have an upgraded option.

The Full model is the standard version. The new Lite model is less than half the size and cheaper to run. AMD says both work on Series X and Series S, and that Xbox optimised the implementation for both consoles in collaboration with AMD. Developers pick whichever gives their game the right balance of performance and image quality.

Microsoft’s new AMD FSR sample on GitHub lets developers flip between FSR 4 Full, FSR 4 Lite and the older FSR 3 while the sample is running, so they can compare them in the same scene.

When will Xbox games use it?

That’s down to individual studios. FSR 4 has to be built into each game, either before release or in an update, so this won’t change how your current games look straight away. No specific games have been confirmed yet.

FSR Upscaling 4.1 is also heading to ROG Xbox Ally handhelds, and AMD says developers can bring it there with the same SDK.
