Knights Peak and Windup Games have released a new Hela: of Mice & Magic story Deep Dive, and confirmed that the full adventure — story included — can be played co-op with cross-play at launch.

The cosy mouse adventure is still due on Xbox Series X|S on 1 December 2026, day one on Game Pass. This piece is only about the new story video and co-op confirmation; for the broader rundown see our everything we know guide and the demo coverage.

Small acts of kindness, a land out of tune

At the heart of Hela, say Knights Peak and Windup, is a warm story about helping others and caring for the world around you. A kind-hearted witch has watched over the land for centuries, but something has fallen out of tune. Growing ill and unable to make the journey herself, she turns to her mouse familiars — and that is where the adventure begins.

Restoring harmony will take more than repeating the past. The old melody is no longer enough; the mice have to help the land find a new one. Guided by letters that still reach the witch’s cottage, players meet people across the land, lend a tiny helping paw, befriend forest creatures, and brush against older magic through encounters such as the mysterious Ritual Keeper. Back home, the witch has stories of her own to share, so even small discoveries feed into a larger tale.

Full story in co-op, or with Shades solo

Alongside the Deep Dive, the studios confirm cross-play support at launch. Up to four players can share the entire adventure — every environment, puzzle and story beat — on the sofa via local split-screen or online. Nothing is reserved for solo players. If you do go it alone, the Shade System lets you summon magical duplicates of your mouse to help with obstacles.

A limited Harmony Edition is also still planned from selected retailers for the December launch. Hela: of Mice & Magic remains day one on Game Pass when it arrives on Xbox Series X|S on 1 December. Wishlist or follow it on the Xbox Store.
