It’s official: The Elder Scrolls 6 is called The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. Bethesda Game Studios revealed the full name at the end of a new video celebrating the studio’s 40th anniversary, more than eight years after the game was first announced at E3 2018.
The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel at a glance
- Official title: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel
- Developer: Bethesda Game Studios
- Revealed: 3 November 2026, in the Celebrating 40 Years of Bethesda Game Studios video
- Release date: Not announced
A name, and not much else
The reveal came right at the end of the video. After walking past a display case of the studio’s games, Todd Howard said Bethesda is “looking forward to all we’re doing, particularly with the Fallout franchise and obviously The Elder Scrolls.” He then added: “Everybody’s always asking about Elder Scrolls 6. And we thought, hey, given the moment, what a perfect time to tell you what The Elder Scrolls 6 is actually called.” Howard doesn’t say the name. The Sentinel logo simply appears on screen.
That’s all we got. There’s no gameplay, no release window and no word on platforms or Game Pass, and the accompanying Xbox Wire post is just the logo.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma followed up on X: “SENTINEL is the next chapter of The Elder Scrolls. An incredible way for @BethesdaStudios to mark 40 years of building worlds that speak to millions of players across generations. Congratulations to the team, past and present.”
The name won’t come as a shock. Last week, The Verge reported that Bethesda planned to confirm the Sentinel subtitle this month, and that the game will be set in Hammerfell and focus on the history of the Elder Scrolls themselves. Sentinel is the name of a city in Hammerfell, but Bethesda hasn’t confirmed the setting or story yet, so treat those details as unconfirmed for now. We covered the report in our earlier story.
40 years of Bethesda Game Studios
Most of the video is a trip down memory lane, with Howard touring the studio’s original office in Bethesda, Maryland. He runs through its history, from 1986’s Gridiron! and the Terminator games to The Elder Scrolls: Arena in 1994 and Daggerfall. Morrowind was the studio’s first Xbox game, followed by Oblivion on Xbox 360, then Fallout 3, the arrival of id Software and ZeniMax Online Studios, Fallout 4 with mods on console, Fallout 76 and Starfield. Howard also notes that Skyrim, which turns 15 this month, is still the studio’s most played game.
