The End of the Sun arrives on Xbox Series X|S on Wednesday 4 November 2026. It’s a first-person narrative adventure steeped in Slavic folklore, and it took a two-person Polish team eight years to make. IMGN.PRO is publishing it on Xbox.
The developer, The End of the Sun Forge, has set the Xbox price at £18.74 (US$24.99), with 20% off for the first week after launch. The Microsoft Store page is live, but there’s no price or pre-order on it yet, so for now you can only wishlist it.
A fire mage, a village and a time rift
You play the Ashter, a Slavic fire mage who can travel through time and tracks mythical beings. Following a legendary creature, you arrive in a village caught in a time rift, where reality has been distorted and the villagers have left behind nothing but smouldering hearths. By bonding with fire, you can see what others can’t: traces, mythical beings and spirits of past events.
The core of the game is exploring an open world with a magical map and connecting with bonfires. Each bond reveals new traces and events, and a fully kindled bonfire becomes a gateway through time. Every hearth is its own small investigation, with its own riddles.
Four seasons, many years apart
Time travel takes you across four seasons, separated by many years. You follow the same villagers at different stages of their lives, during the biggest Slavic festivals. Coming back to familiar places at different points in time shows past events from new angles, tying personal stories to traditional rituals and creatures from Slavic mythology. Your actions change the world around you, so it pays to watch what happens next.
Expect plenty of folklore. The developer mentions the Leshy, drowners and will-o’-the-wisps, which might guide you or lead you astray depending on their mood.
Built from real buildings and museum pieces
The setting comes from research into regional traditions and material culture. Using photogrammetry, the developers scanned hundreds of museum artefacts and whole buildings from the real world into the game, so the village and its surroundings are recreated from the real thing. You can play with full English or Polish voice acting.
