Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School turns the whole campus into a puzzle room, and it arrives on Xbox and Game Pass on Thursday 5 November 2026. Here’s everything we know so far.

Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School is the sequel to Escape Academy, which its makers say has been enjoyed by more than four million players. Coin Crew Games is calling it the first “open world escape room game”.

When is the Escape Academy 2 release date?

Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School launches on Thursday 5 November 2026. Publisher iam8bit confirmed the date on X on 15 October. The Microsoft Store lists the Deluxe Edition’s release at 18:00 GMT that day, and the standard pre-order window closes just before then, so early evening UK time looks like the launch slot.

Is Escape Academy 2 on Game Pass?

Yes. Xbox revealed it as a Game Pass game in an ID@Xbox announcement trailer, and it’s in Xbox’s official “Coming to Game Pass” collection. That means it’ll be in Game Pass Ultimate from day one. iam8bit said on 22 October that it’s “now available for preload on Xbox Game Pass”, so you can download it ahead of launch. It’s part of our Xbox Game Pass November 2026 line-up.

Price, editions and pre-orders

On the Microsoft Store, the standard game is up for pre-order at £16.74 / $19.99. There’s also a Deluxe Edition at £24.99 / $29.99, which adds the Escape Academy 2 Season Pass. According to the Store, that includes:

  • Two upcoming major expansions, each with a new story, new escape rooms and extra-credit side quests, all playable solo or in co-op
  • The Mask-uerade cosmetic pack: ten animal-themed masks for the game’s new character customisation system

The Store doesn’t list Xbox Play Anywhere for this one, so we can’t confirm that a single purchase covers both console and PC.

What kind of game is Escape Academy 2?

You’re a student at Escape Academy, the world’s foremost clandestine school for the art of escaping. The sequel has an all-new campaign of handcrafted escape rooms from veteran puzzle designers, and they come without the safety rules of real ones. The Store promises spiked ceilings, 100-foot drops and, worst of all, final exams.

The big change is the campus. Between classes you can explore a sprawling, secret-filled hub full of hidden passages, tunnels and traps. As the Store listing puts it, “the campus is one big puzzle room”.

Key features

  • Co-op: online co-op and split-screen couch co-op, with cross-platform co-op listed on the Store.
  • No-Timer Mode: a new optional mode so you can puzzle at your own pace.
  • New story: a dark mystery around the school’s founding, with new teachers, familiar faces and puzzle-stuffed side quests.
  • A fresh look: rebuilt visuals, new environments and new outfits for professors and pupils.
  • Soundtrack: DJ Doseone returns with an all-new score.
