Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew, the latest game from Mimimi Games, the developers of Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun and Desperados III, is set to take the stealth strategy genre to new heights. This time, the studio is self-publishing and introducing a host of new features, including magic and supernatural elements. The developer’s last two games have arrived on GeForce NOW.
In Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew, players will join a ghost ship and assemble a cursed pirate crew as they sail the Lost Caribbean and take on the menacing army of the Inquisition. Utilizing supernatural powers, players will attempt to uncover the mysterious treasure of the legendary Captain Mordechai.
As players embark on their journey, they will assemble a crew of cursed pirates and seek the legendary Black Pearls to revive them. Each of the eight shipmates is a playable character with an individual personality and armed with unique supernatural powers. Players can launch friend or foe with Gaëlle’s magical cannon, use Mr. Mercury’s soul anchor to open a magic portal, or dash across spacetime for split-second stealth attacks with Afia’s mythical sword.
To outsmart their enemies, players will pull off epic heists and salvage a mysterious treasure of otherworldly power to defy the army of the Inquisition. They will infiltrate fortresses, sneak behind enemy lines, and cleverly combine the magical skills of their crew to take out a variety of enemies with carefully considered tactics.
Players will also join The Red Marley, a ghost ship with a living soul that acts as their hub for planning and hanging out with their crewmates. As they explore the Lost Caribbean, they will go ashore on a variety of exotic islands, each of which is a unique hand-crafted sandbox where adventures await.
The game offers players a high degree of freedom, allowing them to plot their own path, select their crew members, and experiment with different strategies and playstyles. They can also manipulate time using the powerful time-manipulating magic of the ghost ship, pausing time to consider their strategic choices, queue up multiple character actions, and capture memories of passing moments.
Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew is set to release on Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 in 2023. It is a title I will be keeping my eye on as I like the look of the game.
