DigixArt has announced the upcoming release of Road 96: Mile 0, a narrative adventure game with a musical component and the prequel to the critically acclaimed “Road 96.” The game is set to launch on April 4th and has already opted into GeForce NOW along with the original being on the platform.
The reveal trailer for the game features the brand new single “Land Locked Heart” from American synth band The Midnight, which brings a 90s vibe to the game. The single will be available soon on Spotify.
Set in White Sands – Petria’s only luxurious community – Road 96: Mile 0 takes place just before the road trip that began in the summer of 1996. Players will alternate between the roles of Zoe and Kaito, two teenagers with opposite backgrounds and beliefs. Former “Road 96” players will remember Zoe as one of the main characters. She comes from the wealthy side of the city and her father works for President Tyrak’s government as the Minister of Oil. Kaito, a character from “Lost in Harmony,” has moved with his parents to the rich condominium of White Sands to find work and escape the city’s pollution.
As Zoe becomes more intrigued by Kaito’s darkness, the two become good friends. However, this friendship will soon be put to the test, as Zoe discovers disturbing truths about her country and even her own father.
Players will explore the inner worlds of Zoe and Kaito through a combination of narrative segments and rhythm-based gameplay. These imaginary trips will allow players to shape and influence the emotional journey of the characters.
Yoan Fanise, CEO of DigixArt, said, “In Road 96: Mile 0, we wanted to show where Zoe comes from and why she left her comfortable life. But we didn’t make it the conventional way, we went the crazy road, with metaphorical music sequences where you ride through the beliefs and doubts of Zoe and Kaito. The interesting part is that YOU choose how you want them to evolve.”
In addition to the game’s unique gameplay, the colorful and retro “Land Locked Heart” from The Midnight will be featured in the game’s soundtrack, adding to the emotional experience for players. The band commented, “this song is about the paradox of coming home. Even though it’s where you were formed and where the evidence of the origin story is all around, there comes a time when it no longer feels like home. Eventually, it feels like a place you must escape from, or be destined to continue in a story that isn’t yours. We’re excited to see the song come to life in Road 96: Mile 0.”
