A hunter in a green hooded cloak wields a massive, glowing hammer-like weapon against colossal, lion-like beasts with fiery manes in a dry, rugged landscape. The creatures snarl menacingly, their thick fur bristling as they prepare to strike. The terrain is filled with golden grass, twisted trees, and towering rock formations under a bright, clear sky.

Monster Hunter Wilds on GeForce NOW… But There’s a Catch!

Great news, hunters! Monster Hunter Wilds has finally landed on GeForce NOW! You can now slay massive monsters in the gorgeous world of Kamura Village from virtually any device. But before you grab your weapon and start sharpening, there’s something you should know: you’ll need a Premium membership to play.

That’s right, Monster Hunter Wilds is one of the first games on GeForce NOW to require a paid tier for access. While this might come as a surprise to some, it seems this might become more common for demanding titles.

Why the Premium requirement?

As we explained in our recent article, some games have system requirements that exceed the specs of the basic GeForce NOW rigs. This can include factors like higher RAM requirements, the need for ray tracing support, or other demanding features.

In the case of Monster Hunter Wilds, it seems the game’s requirements are pushing the limits of the free tier. By the sounds of it, you’ll probably want to be on the Ultimate tier with its RTX 4080 performance to really experience the game at its best. (Don’t worry, we’ve got a guide if you’re unsure which one to choose!)

What does this mean for the future of GeForce NOW?

This development could signal a shift in GeForce NOW’s strategy. As more demanding games are released, we might see more titles requiring higher-tier memberships. This could be a way for NVIDIA to manage resources and ensure optimal performance for premium users.

However, it also raises questions about accessibility. One of the biggest appeals of cloud gaming is its ability to democratize gaming, allowing those without expensive hardware to play the latest releases. By locking some games behind a paywall, GeForce NOW risks alienating some of its user base.

Only time will tell how this will play out. For now, if you’re eager to experience Monster Hunter Wilds on GeForce NOW, be prepared to upgrade your membership.
