Squanch Games’ latest release, High On Life, has had a hugely successful launch on Xbox Game Pass, becoming the biggest 3rd party Game Pass launch of all time and the biggest single player-only game release in the service’s history. According to Squanch Games’ Studio Director and COO, Mike Fridley, the response from players has been overwhelmingly positive, with High On Life becoming the most popular game on Game Pass.
High On Life follows the story of a teenager who becomes a bounty hunter after an alien cartel begins using humans as drugs. The game combines classic shooting with light RPG mechanics and a dose of humor, and has proven to be a hit with players around the world. In an interview with Larry Hryb, co-creator Justin Roiland revealed that the team went above and beyond to include extra voices, animations, and details that reflect player decisions, drawing inspiration from Roiland’s own gaming interests.
The success of High On Life on Xbox Game Pass is a testament to the power of the subscription service and its ability to reach a wide audience of gamers. As Fridley noted, Squanch Games was created with the goal of making games that the team wanted to play, and Game Pass has helped the studio reach players who share that same passion.
Matt Percy, General Manager of Content Planning at Xbox, also commented on the success of High On Life, stating that it’s “fantastic to see so many Game Pass members jump into it at launch to experience Squanch’s story for themselves ahead of the holidays.” It’s clear that High On Life has resonated with players and has become a must-play game on Game Pass.
If you haven’t had the chance to check out High On Life yet, you can grab the game now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows through your Game Pass membership.
