Call of Duty on xCloud? Unlikely say Microsoft

If the Microsoft Blizzard deal were to go through, it is likely that the popular first-person shooter game Call of Duty will not be made available on xCloud due to the potential for consumer confusion. This information was revealed in a submission made by Microsoft to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) as part of the review process for the proposed merger.

According to the submission, Activision, the publisher of Call of Duty, has already developed a successful mobile version of the game called Call of Duty: Mobile. Since its launch in 2019, Call of Duty: Mobile has gained millions of monthly active users (MAUs) and is available on the App Store and Google Play Store.

In light of the success of Call of Duty: Mobile, Microsoft stated that the inclusion of Call of Duty on xCloud, its cloud gaming service, “would be likely to cause consumer confusion and damage the Call of Duty: Mobile brand.” This is because the user experience and gameplay of the two versions would be different, potentially leading to confusion among players.

It is worth noting that this information is based on a submission made by Microsoft to the CMA and does not necessarily reflect the final decision on the Microsoft Blizzard merger or the availability of Call of Duty on xCloud. However, it does provide insight into the considerations that are being made as part of the review process.
